Among the Dolls, cover for TOR books
I just found out from the art director at TOR books that this cover was accepted into the upcoming Society of Illustrators annual. The book was about a young girl who mistreats her toys but awakes one day to find herself trapped in her dollhouse. Scary dolls always recall Hans Bellmer's work -- he owns that subject, just as Joseph Cornell owns assemblage boxes and Henry Darger owns creepy little girls. And by "owned," I mean "pwnd" if one tries to depict creepy dolls and little girls in the shadow of their work.

Reminds me of Balthus http://www.loustal.nl/IMAGES/art_balthus_10.jpg, as well as Bellmer. Not to mention Varo: http://www.goddesschess.com/artfolio/remeluna2.jpg
congratulations James! I recently watched the Henry Darger documentary. It was amazing, and extremely well made. He had an incredible output of work. I loved chris ware's contribution to the opening.
congrats =)
This is my favourite one yet.
AA - Yes, Balthus! I love his compositions.
Chris - I have yet to see that particular HD doc. . . have to find a moment one day soon.
AH and Bruno - thanks!!
Beautiful work, as always, James. (ps: check your site in Safari.. the CSS is behaving strangely!)
cheers
Luc
me again.. several refreshes straightened out the page, but I still can't access the RSS/Atom feed?
Hi Luc, thanks for the headsup. I hope the CSS isn't acting up again. Sadly, I still haven't figured out how to get the RSS/Atom feed to work, though I've looked into setting it up. Any advice would be great . . .
hi again James
I noticed your URL remains "http://processrecess.com/" even when you click on any previous posts, although the blog's actual URL is "http://processrecess.com/blog/blog.html"
This is probably because you have the *actual* URL "cloaked;" if you change it to "fully hosted" (or whatever your hosting options are) this should straighten it all out. As long as your "index.html" page redirects to the "/blog/blog.html" page, it should be fine.
The good news: When I opened the *actual* URL, I was finally able to access the RSS/Atom feed, and therefore subscribe to your site, and stay up to date on your work. Which I love, and discovered when I saw your stunning covers for the Green Arrow comics. Yow. All comic book covers should look that great.
cheers
Luc
Cette oeuvre est merveilleuse. C'est ma préférée!
Bravo.
